University Of Huddersfield Top For Teaching
We now top the league for teaching quality over all the 'new universities' in the North of England. For the whole of the UK Huddersfield gains an impressive second place for quality teaching among the post-1992 universities, the former polytechnics.
The Times newspaper's annual League Table shows Huddersfield in 23rd place in the UK overall, with identical teaching quality scores to 'old universities' such as Sheffield, Newcastle and King's College London.
The Times put us among the top 20 for Social Work and Food Science and we were rated third place nationally for Tourism and Hospitality in The Guardian in April.
Tim Boatswain, the University's Pro-Vice Chancellor for External Relations said:
"We are delighted with the teaching quality results. They are a testimony to the hard-work and energy of our talented staff and the dedication and commitment of our students. We always knew that we would perform well on teaching quality, it has long been a particular strength, but to receive the highest ratings for a post-1992 university in the whole of the North of England is indeed an accolade."

It's Official! - A New University for Swansea
Swansea Institute has won its bid to be renamed Swansea Metropolitan University and becomes the UK's newest university in doing so.
This now puts Swansea on a par with the big league university cities and towns of London, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds who also have metropolitan universities.
The Institute has today been given confirmation from the Privy Council that their application for university title has been successful. This follows two-years of rigorous inspections which the Institute has past with flying colours.
Swansea Institute Principal Professor David Warner commented: "We are delighted to announce that our application has been successful and Swansea now has two universities. The title of Swansea Metropolitan University has been approved."
"The new university title will be celebrated at a number of formal events later this year," he added.
Swansea Metropolitan University inherits a long tradition of educational excellence as its predecessor colleges have been serving the people of Swansea and the surrounding region for more than 150 years, with its School of Art established in 1853 and teacher education in 1872.
Professor Warner continued: "This is an exciting development for Swansea and the community at large and is the result of a lot of hard work from everyone involved."
"We have received major support during our application process and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to and endorsed our cause. Swansea Metropolitan University thanks you all."
